  • i did! it was cocoon.

my husband and the bridal party walked down to the harp/music box version of "aurora"

    it was a true dream.

then our first dance was "like someone in love"

    it was awesome...

we even threw some gling glo into the mix.
    • oh how lovely! i'm getting hitched in may, outdoors in full fairy costume! i can't believe i didn't think of Her as a ceremonial soundtrack....i think i would choose All Is Full of Love!

hmmmm...it's easier to choose a song for the first dance. "Who Is It?" would be my choice for that.

I guess I'd walk down the aisle to "All is Full of Love." "Cocoon" is a little too sexual for my wedding I think. Maybe "Unison." Or "Joga," although I've met Björk's friend Joga, so the song now makes me think of her. She's fabulous, btw. We spent an evening in Paris talking about her life with her (at the time--2001) new husband and his many children. Until her recent marriage she and Frosti (her son) had been living alone, so the full house was a change for her.
    • yes, "cocoon" is sexual, but we were sure to stop before she says, "he slides inside". up to that the lyrics are amazingly appropriate:

who would have known : that a boy like him
would have entered me lightly restoring my blisses

who would have known : that a boy like him
after sharing my core would stay going nowhere

who would have known : a beauty this immense
who would have known : a saintly trance
who would have known : miraculous breath
to inhale a beard loaded with courage

who would have known : that a boy like him
      possessed of magical sensitivity
would approach a girl like me
      who carresses
      cradles
      his head in a bosom

as far as joga, i thought the song was about "iceland." i got that from one of her dvd's for homogenic.
who is this "joga" person, and how did you meet her?

i also love that song and wanted to use it in my wedding, but didn't b/c we didn't want a björk overkill. we did use "all is full of love" in our video presentation to close it out. everyone loved it. it is a perfect song for the occasion.

Jóga is a friend of Björk's. They've been friends for quite awhile. It is she who inspired the song lyrics, which are penned by Sjón, another icelandic friend of Björk's.

During the Vespertine tour I was living in Paris. Björk was touring with Matmos at the time, who I know from San Francisco. They spent over a week in paris at the beginning of the tour, and several more days at the end. I got to hobnob with the touring people a bit on a few occasions, including afterparties and dinners. I didn't really speak to Björk--I was too shy, and didn't want to approach her as a fan in spaces that were more private. I did dance a little with her at one afterparty. Björk knows all the lyrics to "Get Your Freak On."
        • wow..what an amazing story! i especially love that björk knows the lyrics to "get your freak on." that song is hot, but now it's hotter.

you are so lucky - to be hanging at these places in paris with such amazing people is beyond words. one question - why is it she that inspired the lyrics? what is it about that woman that is so special to inspire the lyrics? she didn't mention her friend "joga" in the video (well, at least i don't remember it being mentioned). i'll check my video collection to find the exact video that i was talking about. of course it is possible that she wanted to keep some stuff private, as she did in coccoon where she says expressed a lot, but didn't express everything.

          thanx for sharing your story!
